Society Islands
Tahiti, Bora Bora,Huahine, Raitea, Tahaa
Society Islands were really beautiful. We sailed into Tahiti first were we took a spot at the Marina. We toured the island with a rental car, went to the waterfalls, saw some beautiful black sand beaches and meet up with some great friends.
In Raitea we got some work done on the boat, had a couple Southern Star bbq's (they were termed "The Bitter End" at four fingers (till sunset) We meet up with Souls Calling who took us all wakeboarding on surf boards...we got everyone up - I think it was around 9 people - maybe more! We had a spa day at the marina - the boys got haircuts and the girls did their nails. We also had some great pizza outings with the other cruisers. The highlight was Father Day Brunch with freshly made tortilla's and big big breakfast burritos, a true stone soup effort with Southern Star and Souls Calling.
From Raitea we went to Tahaa - around the island with Southern Star and thank God they were with us as the second night out our 300 foot chain and anchor fell off the boat into 60 feet of water. They helped us anchor safely for the night and Jim, Andy, and Mark dove with our new (not so tested) Hooka to rescue the anchor - Jim told us...."Listen you have to relax, you won't be able to breath once you get down there" he was right!! Thank you ANDY for finding it!! My heart was pounding for three days. On this trip we saw amazing coral head gardens, toured up a river through the forest in the dinghies, saw a turtle preserve, had some nice dinners with Southern Star, Far Niente, and had a hike up a mountain, played a bit of water polo between the boats - it was great.
Next we were off to Bora Bora. We moored at the Bora Bora Yacht Club. We played tennis, went to Bloody Mary's restaurant, hiked up another mountain, and set anchor near a beautiful motu- with a beach all to ourselves. There was an island festival and we all went crazy for the food and games - the kids were in heaven with cotton candy and carnival treats. We watched two performances of the dancing/ singing competition.
The trip to Raratonga the first two days was great sailing- then the wind switched up to 30 knots on the nose with 15-25 foot seas. Kira didn't eat for three days - it was quite a trip and we were so glad Kurt was along with us. I will remember being soaking wet in the crazy downpours....the perfect storm. - Once we got there, we got ready for our Fourth of July BBQ - with volleyball on the beach - it so much fun. We finally saw an island show with the hula dancers!! We got to meet Molly and Kendall Yeah - we had a great time with our new friends from New Zealand: Micheal, Julie, Debbie and Frank, they were so much fun.
